Materials Science
Materials science is a varied and interdisciplinary topic that covers the design and discovery of new solid materials such as metals, polymers, semiconductors, and ceramics. Work within the field examines the relationships between the structure and properties of a material and how it is made. This allows the development of new materials and advanced manufacturing processes. Materials science encompasses solid-state physics, metallurgy, and chemistry, and is vital for a diverse range of allied fields, including nanotechnology, quantum computing, energy storage, and nuclear energy, as well as medical technologies and drug delivery. It is also a key part of engineering activities such as electronics, aerospace, telecommunications, and information processing.
